This is no joke, Gamera is indeed back and his return was witnessed by the most dedicated of the 3yen contributors.
All praise the kaiju gods. Gamera is back in a new movie that’ll take a closer look at his wild youth. Yes, the new Gamera is a prequel and it will unveiled the mystery behind my favourite atomic turtle origins. I can’t wait. I like to think that this modest blog inspired japanese producers to revive Gamera, since Gamera was the subject of the first post of the site, proving the renewing interest in that magnificent beast.
Shrine of Gamera has quite a documented report on the movie with shots taken from the set.
The trailer has already been uploaded on youtube with a lenghty description of the movie.
There’s also the official website full of information in Japanese and where you can listen to the theme song from Mink.
Gamera : Little Braves (Gamera: Chiisaki yusha-tachi) is going to be released on the 29th of April. Yes, it’s not been released yet and i’m talking about it which pretty rare, i’m so proud of myself. It actually still qualifies as “news”.
I’m going to eat a suppon to celebrate then, i’ll start lobbying for a Gamera vs Negadon movie.
You lucky pups !
An american company has bought the right to Negadon, the wonderful cg flick about giant monsters.
Central Park Media is not sweeping it under the rug either, they have some big promo operations on the way and we just receive an email from them detailing what is to come.
I don’t make an habit of shamelessly promoting stuff but the news of the coming release of Negadon fills me with joy. So i have to express myself by talking about CPM’s promo operations. Unfortunately they’re not paying us, not yet.
Come on, use our cheap cpm CPM !
Anyway, they just launched an all english website featuring a teaser trailer. They have a kaiju-design contest where the best submited creations will be on the dvd and they plan on showing the movie at an anime fest in Syracuse on march 25th.
The dvd itself will be released this coming summer.
Support the cg kaiju goodness !
The internet will love you for it.
There are news and there are news.
So i’ve been to the Tokyo film festival on the last day, thanks to Smith Frenzy, a 3yen benefactor. I had the chance to watch a super sentai double program featuring a early episode of Kamen rider and one of the less well known Miraa Maaan(aka Mirror Man).
This was in fact organised to promote the coming release of a new Mirror Man flick called Mirror Man Reflex that’s supposed to come out in early 2006.
The actor of the new Mirror Man film was present. The highlight of the night was, when asked to pose as Mirror Man for photographs, the actor replied “no man, that’s embarassing”.
A dvd box set of Mirror Man is also going to be released on the 23rd of November.
So now, i could just give you the link to the official site for Mirraaa Maaan Reflex (the trailer is in there, flash embeded).
But since it’s 3yen, and you know we go out of our way to provide the best in plexupublishing (ask Yves), here’s the vintage Mirror Man song, used to make fun of japanese economist Uekusa Kazuhide.(via wikipedia).
I’m glad because i think 3yen is the first english site to report the coming release of Mirraa maan Reflex in .
It’s small victories that makes us who we are. Succesful actors of the complex and unforgiven world of plexuspublishing.
Everybody love time travel stories. What about summer time travel stories ?
Summer Time Machine Blues is a teen-movie where a group of geeks from the science fiction club find a working time machine. Funny situations ensues
Seems to me that there’s a wave of time travel movies coming our way. after Sengoku 1549 and Einstein Girl, this is the third time travel movie this year.
I won’t complain, i mean everybody likes time travel movies. I mean you liked Groundhog Dayand Back to the Future didn’t you ? Summer Time Machine Blues is the same lighthearted comedy full of goofiness bathed in a general summer spirit that people likes.
Now, to illustrate that, i decided to put a pictures from the blog you can find on the official site. Those young people eating hamburgers are just plain likeable don’t you think ?
Now the official site is hilarious and the trailer (.asx) has a cute interface, you’ll like them both as if they were your children.
Children are our future by the way… except when the get their hands on a time machine hahahahamlkjshgpvqddgf
Einstein Girl is a movie about a highschool teen who happens to fall in a timeslip. Way to go Einstein girl ! Anyway she has the chance to save her mother from dying in an accident while messing up with time continuity and fuck this world up for good.
What is she going to do ?
Well, you’ll have to go and see Einstein Girl to figure this out Einstein. Anyway, it’s nonsense. Go read the article on wikipedia about time travel to see that these sort of events can’t happen. In case you still had doubts.
The trailer’s here and the official website’s here. And it’s playing right now in Japan. So go and see it or don’t.
Robots are finally getting some in Hinokio, a “galactic love story” about a handicaped kid, his robot and various girls. It’s a kid movie so don’t get your hopes too high though. There’s also some stuff about hikikomori(sm?), as the kid doesn’t want to go school and send a remote controlled robot in his place. What a great future. Tomorow, i’ll send my robot to work as i don’t want to show up cause my feelings are hurt by something. My robot will say the things i never dared say to my boss while grabbing the ass of the cutie who sits in the cubicle next to mine. Then my robot will come back home and do my poorly written column for 3yen and no one will ever notice the difference. Bright future indeed.
It’s going to be released sometimes this year. The robot is kinda cool, creepy and cute at the same time. My robot will be different, like a big half naked man with fiery eyes and a tatoo in gothic letters over his hairless chest saying “I, Robot, in your face” or something like that.
Anyway, get more info on the official site and see the wonders of modern robotic in movement here.
Sh15uya is the last hot piece of drama to hit the land of the ris… Ok now, here’s the problem. I’ve made a promise a long time ago to my now dead sister to never use the words land of the rising sun when speaking about Japan. Anyone out there talking about japan should never used those words as far as i’m concerned. It’s just a cheaper way to avoid repetition.
Who are we kidding ? I’m always talking about stuff from Japan anyway. I don’t have to use those cheap metaphors or nicknames. Let’s call a dick a dick as my grandfather used to say.
Sh15uya is a japanese TV drama that’s going to appeal to anime fans all over the world. Japanese drama means crappy video, and laughable special effects. Sh15uya is described on the official site as an Action/SF drama. It means it’s about kids getting dressed up as visual rock idols and beating the shit out of each other. Looking at the trailers i can without doubts say that this drama is retarded.
Oh, and all the 25 year old looking girls are actually 15, that’s why the drama is called Sh15uya, which means Shibuya 15. They can’t even get l33t speak right.

Giant monsters lead inevitably to giant robots, their shiny counterpart.
From Grendizer to Evangelion and Gundam every giant robot bends his knees in front of Tetsujin 28 !
Tetsujin 28 is the big guy that started it all. The father of all mechas. You can tell that by looking at its eyes. Tetsujin means business. Ok Testsujin 28 was in fact the bitch of some 10 year old boy. The important thing is that he was looking super cool and serious when he was beating the shit out of Black OX (who by the way was a little girl’s bitch).
And guess what ? They’re making a movie out of it! And guess what ? Here’s the trailer and the official site.
Ok the movie looks corny as hell, but you gotta admit that those old robots are cool. Why, oh why Tetsujin, did you have to submit you powerful metallic body to the will of some retarded 10 year old ? Free yourself, smash the little prick and go on with you life, beating the crap outta giant clownesque pointy head robots.

Writing about Gamera reminded me that i really love old Kaiju movies. 2 or 3 years ago i went to the HMV in shibuya and discovered that the precise week i was in Japan was the week of the release of a collector’s edition of Daikyoju Gappa. Gappa is one of the most oddly designed kaiju in history, it looks like a chicken with a lizard skin. Anyway the collector’s edition of Daikyoju Gappa contained an actual plastic figure of Gappa in all its gooffy beauty. It was a bit expensive though so i resisted the urge to buy it right away.
Boy do i regret this now.
On a different note, while searching for links on gappa i found this page and discovered the following trivia:
“An early print of the film included the racist comment “The monsters are attacking Tokyo. Fortunately they are attacking the negro section of town.”..”
Being racist is one thing, having fantaisies of giant lizard bird creature destroying black people in asian cities is just weird. And thinking about a group of white supremacist buying the american distribution rights of Daikyoju Gappa is just plain non sense.
The Japan Society in NYC is having an event called “Otaku Strikes!“. They will have several showings of unreleased corny japanese flicks.
Do not miss Gamera 3 if you have the chance to see it. It’s really what a modern kaiju movie should be. It’s totally fucked up, they have a minister of the giant monster and they’re making conferences about “why giant monsters keep attacking Japan ?”.
Also the final battle is great, what i love about the movie is that even though they had tons of money in it it’s still two guys in costume figthning on a set. That’s why the american Godzilla will always suck, that and Matthew Broderick of course.
